Grey Matter

By Jon Donnis

Grey Matter, a poignant new British drama from director Arabella Burfitt-Dons, makes its UK digital debut on 10 March 2025 via Miracle Media. Starring Stephanie Beacham, Eloise Smyth, and Elizabeth Berrington, the film explores the emotional impact of Alzheimer's on a family navigating love, loss, and the strength of human connection.

Stephanie Beacham delivers a raw and moving portrayal of Peg, a woman diagnosed with Alzheimer's whose life, and the lives of those around her, is forever changed. Elizabeth Berrington plays Peg's daughter, balancing work with the responsibility of care, while Eloise Smyth shines as Chloe, Peg's teenage granddaughter, who becomes her unexpected caregiver. The cast also features Harry Kirton, Kierston Wareing, Nigel Boyle, Sunetra Sarker, and Brooke Burfitt.

When Peg receives her diagnosis, her daughter insists she move in, but work commitments leave Chloe to step into the role of full-time carer. Reluctant and overwhelmed, Chloe struggles with her new reality until she's pushed to join an Alzheimer's support group, where she meets Sam, whose presence gradually helps her open up. As Peg's condition progresses, Chloe asks her a life-changing question: what does she still want to experience? Together, they create a bucket list, turning a heartbreaking situation into an unforgettable summer filled with laughter, adventure, and precious memories.

Grey Matter doesn't shy away from the realities of Alzheimer's, showing both the painful and tender moments that come with caring for a loved one. The film highlights the challenges many families face while celebrating the enduring power of love and the importance of cherishing every moment. With heartfelt performances and an honest depiction of illness and family dynamics, Grey Matter promises to be an emotional and thought-provoking watch when it premieres on 10 March 2025.
